The large stall front bags and regular models have all of the above features but have different measurements. The large measures 28x8x28 inches. We have found that the large blanket storage bag hold pretty much any winter horse blanket including the neck piece without issue – you can pull the blanket in and out with gloves. Alternatively, you can load the large up with three show blankets like a Back on Track sheet, a stall sheet / fly sheet + a lightweight evening blanket. The regular sized bag measures 20x5x22 inches. Stainless steel Bevel bit with copper lozenge is a mild leverage bit. The copper lozenge is known to increase acceptance and salivation. The oval lozenge is sometimes preferred over a flat French link because there are no possibly uncomfortable edges on a lozenge. Bevel design helps maintain a straight line from riders hand to horse’s mouth.

Materials (Stainless Steel and Copper)
Stainless steel has been used for horse bits around the world for a long time. The copper lozenge is there for salivation and bit acceptance. Many riders and trainers prefer a lozenge over a flat French link because a lozenge has a smaller chance of cutting the horse’s mouth.
Showjumper William Funnell goes as far as to back the claim that by combining the sweet taste of iron with the sour tang of copper, horses who are strong tense or heavy in the hand become lighter and more responsive.
Bevel Bit Design
When looking at the stainless steel bevel bit with copper lozenge, the first thing you should notice is the half-moon shapes at the top and bottom of the bit rings. That’s where the cheekpieces connect (top) and the reins connect (bottom). When pressure is applied to the reins, the bevel bit rotates, sending a bit of pressure to the poll and the rest to the bit itself. A nearly perfect straight line can be maintained between rider’s hand and horse’s mouth with a bevel, unlike more aggressive leverage bits. A straight line helps with steering… important.
Copper Lozenge
The two joints (one on each side of the link) reduce the nutcracker effect of a regular jointed snaffle. Thus, the design allows the rider independent control over each side of the horse’s mouth. Rein pressure is evenly distributed across the bars of the mouth.
The center of the bit is called a Lozenge, it’s made of copper. It’s oval and is sometimes preferred over a regular, flat French link. The oval Lozenge is sometimes more accepted by the horse because there are no thin edges that could be uncomfortable.

Ecogold Flip Pad Thickness
The standard design of the flip half pad is 1 inch thick: 3/4 inches interior foam plus the outer shell of 1/4 inch. This thickness can be changed. The shims come in 2 widths: 1/2 or 3/4 inch. You can add the shims over the top of the interior foam. You can also remove the interior foam and have just the shims there.
Materials Used
Ecogold has developed many saddle pads using some pretty rad materials. For the flip pad, Ecogold uses the same no-slip materials found on their Secure line of products (Dressage pad, Cross Country pad etc.). The non-slip material is on the outside of the pad, where the pad will touch the saddle and full-size pad (not designed for use directly on horses back like a sheepskin half pad). The interior of the Ecogold flip half pad is premium, high resilience foam. Unlike memory foam, HR foam bounces back quickly when impacted. High resilience foam is used in some mattress covers designed for people with sensitive pressure points. The same theory applies to your horses back – this pad reduces sensitivity to pressure points.
Fully customizable Mattes Correction Half Pad includes 6 shims. They’re used either directly on the horse’s back or on top of a pad. The objective of the sheepskin is to protect horses back from impacts and provide ventilation. Merino sheepskin protects your horse’s back from the panels of your saddle. The objective of the shims is to help with saddle fit. The quilt, binding and sheepskin color of the Mattes sheepskin half pad are customizable to fit your eventing or barn colors.

We stock the Mattes sheepskin half pad in two color combinations: black and white. Both quilt colors include matching binding (black gets black binding and white gets white binding). Both colors feature natural sheepskin that might come to you a bit yellow but can easily be bleached IN THE SUN just by leaving it out for a few hours. We don’t suggest using actual bleach as some of the chemical will remain on the pad and come off on your horse’s back. We stock pads in Medium and Large sizes. Small and XL half pads are available by special order.
You can custom order any quilt color with any binding in any size including Small and XL. Custom orders take 6-10 weeks to get built + the time it takes to deliver. Shipping within the US is complimentary on all Mattes sheepskin half pads even if it’s a custom order.
