Vespucci Hand Grip Rubber Reins
Vespucci Hand Grip Rubber Reins also known as Edwina Tops Alexander Reins were designed by Vespucci and top showjumper, Edwina Tops Alexander. These show jumping reins were created to meet the special requirements of the stadium jumping phase. The grippy reins feature soft rubber with leather hand grips placed every 2.36 inches (6cm) along the reins. This rubber rein with leather hand stops provides not only a superior grip, but allows the rider to keep a more steady, precise contact with the horses mouth. At 51 inches, these reins are a few inches shorter than our Five Star Chessington reins. The short reins helps avoid the danger of something like a foot getting caught up in the excess loop – especially when riding smaller horses.
- Thick rubber reins with leather hand stops
- Shorter than regular reins – 51 inches long
- Great for horses with short necks / smaller horses
- Buckle ends or hook / stud ends – we’re referring to the part that connects to the bit. The other end is a buckle – where the two reins come together over the pommel of the saddle
Vespucci Hand Grip Reins VS. Super Grip Rubber Reins
This is a side by side comparison of the Vespucci show jumping reins (top) and our popular Five Star Tack Super Grip Reins (bottom). The Vespucci reins are a bit stiffer (out of the box) than the super grip reins. The “stickiness” is about the same. The Vespucci reins are probably not great for XC because of the leather hand stops – it would be tough to slip the reins after a big bank. They’re also designed shorter so there isn’t any way to tie a knot.
Hand Grip Reins on the top, Super Grip Reins on the bottom
When riding ten or more horses a day, I need tack that is durable and dependable. That is why I ride in Vespucci.

These are great! No slip and firm feel. Highly recommend!
