Product Description
MDCÂ S Classic Stirrup (no flex)
MDC S Classic stirrup is the latest in stirrup design from MDC Stirrups of California. These new MDC Stirrups take the signature MDC twist top design and simplify it, allowing the most common 45-degree angle to be fixed. When hanging from the stirrup leathers, the MDC S Classic stirrup point outboard, away from your horse at an angle of 45 degrees. This position allows for easier stirrup retrieval, relief of pressure throughout the leg – knee and ankle relief, improved leg position and increased safety during a fall.
- Simplified design from the twist top MDC Stirrup models
- Lighter weight compared to the traditional MDC Flex models
- Fixed 45-degree angle
- Easier stirrup retrieval, overall safety increased
- Knee and ankle relief
- No slip aluminum footbed won’t kill your calfskin leathers
The MDC S Flex model is also available!
Aluminum Footbed In Traditional Or Wide Variation
We offer the MDC S Classic stirrup with the traditional width tread or with the wide variation that’s standard on all MDC Stirrups with an aluminum footbed. Either width footbed provides a high degree of traction for all boot types. The wide footbed is recommended, it’s similar to standing the long part on a 2×4 instead of on the top of it. The front of both the footbeds is smooth, allowing you to run up your stirrups without ruining your calf leather stirrup leathers. When you purchase the traditional tread, we will also be including the standard MDC wide footbed. Installation of the traditional tread is simple and requires only an allen wrench.
Why a 45 Degree Angle?
You’re going to lose your stirrups while riding. The 45-degree angle build into the MDC S Classic stirrup helps you retrieve the stirrups easier. Traditional stirrup irons lay flat against the horse’s side and return there when you lose them. MDC Stirrups are designed to open up to the front of the horse (instead of the side) making it easier to retrieve your stirrups. Besides the safety aspect, the angle of the stirrup also decreases pressure on the ankle and knee, increasing the rider’s comfort and efficiency.
MDC S Classic Stirrup or MDC S Flex?
The MDC S Classic does not have the flex feature that the MDC S Flex has. For eventing, we see most riders using the flex on their jump and XC saddles. The classic end up on the dressage saddle. It’s ultimately personal preference as far as flex or no flex stirrup. Some find that the flex increases comfort and reduces pain in hip and knees. There are not any safety issues with the flex that comes from MDC – some rip off models have a weak design, be wary of cheap, it’s not good.
MDC designs their S Classic Stirrup irons in California and manufactures them in China.
