Mattes Crescent Long Girth

The Mattes Crescent Long Girth and short girth are designed to help fit horses with a narrow front end, sprung rib or a short backed horse that has little room for the girth. The mattes crescent girth includes two pieces: a quilted girth base and a sheepskin cover. Both parts are available in multiple colors – or just black, which is cool too.

Crescent Girth Helps Reduce Rubbing

If you’re looking for an anatomic dressage girth for a horse with a combination of a short back and wide ribcage, causing your current dressage girth to slide forward into the elbow, the Mattes Crescent Long Girth could be for you. The crescent shape keeps the girth from being pushed forward and leaves room for the elbows. The shape also helps to eliminate galling – which is a fancy way to describe what is typically known as “rubbing the girth area”.

Customize Your Mattes Crescent Girth (6-8 weeks)

EA Mattes sheepskin saddle pads and girths have three customizations. You can customize the sheepskin color, the twill (quilt) color and the length. You can find the colors on the left, in the product picture area. Some color combinations will take 6-8 weeks for delivery. No additional cost for custom orders. Want an all brown dressage girth? What Colors and Sizes Are Available NOW?

Mattes Crescent Long Girth with Detachable Sheepskin stock in the US with brown quilts and a brown sheepskin cover. These stock in sizes 50 and 52, only. All other long girth color combinations and sizes are by special order and will take 6-8 weeks for delivery. If you don’t want to wait the 6-8 weeks, be sure to type in BROWN for the quilt and BROWN for the sheepskin when ordering. Also, be sure to only order a 50 or 52

For the mattes crescent short girth, these stock in two variations. Brown in sizes 26 – 29 (brown sheepskin, brown twill) + all black in sizes 22-30. Sizes and colors outside that range are custom and take 6-8 weeks to deliver.

Caring For Your Mattes Sheepskin Girth

EA Mattes uses actual sheepskin with the wool attached. This type of material requires special treatment. Mattes suggests using their MELP detergent on all their pads and fleece girths. We sell the MELP  leather conditioner and suggest purchasing a bottle with your order. Girths are washer safe in cold water when washed on gentle or wool cycle. Gently pull back to the correct shape and lay flat to dry. Don’t expose to direct sunlight or dry using a heater / dryer or blow torch. Never use chlorine bleach unless you want to ruin your gear.
