Mattes Contoured Girth

Mattes Contoured Girth is designed for a horse without conformation issues. The shape is contoured to allow more elbow room, decreasing rubs, and encouraging reach. For a short backed horse, try the Mattes Athletico Girth. Mattes girths feature a removable sheepskin cover that can be thrown in the washer using any wool-safe detergent such as MELP sheepskin cleaner. Stainless steel roller buckles with spring closures make on the fly adjustments easy and safe.

The Contoured girth by Mattes is nearly identical to the Christ Lammfelle Dressage Girth.

Mattes Contoured Girth Fitting

This girth should not prove difficult to fit. We suggest you order a size larger than you would any nonsheepskin girth just to make up for the thick wool. Stocked sizes are available from the drop downs. If you don’t see the size or color you want, it’s available but has to be custom made. There is no charge for a custom mattes girth but it will take about 6 weeks to deliver.

Replacement Parts Available

Any length girth base, as well as the sheepskin girth cover, are available separately. You save about 10% by purchasing them together. Select from the drop downs to find just the girth base or just the sheepskin cover.

Colors and Custom Orders

Mattes girths are available in black base, black sheepskin and brown base with natural sheepskin – ALL others are considered custom orders and will take 6-10 weeks to deliver. Handmade using sustainable materials. Mattes uses genuine Merino sheepskins. Sheepskin is a great material for use on girths due to its natural, non-slip properties. Wool is also a great moisture wicking material.
