Mattes Athletico Long Girth

Mattes Athletico Girth is a special purpose long girth with the design for alleviating the problems associated with saddles slipping back due to horse conformation issues. The Mattes Athletico long girth is shaped in a way that helps it stay in the correct position rather than sliding back based on the horse’s topline. The girth features a removable sheepskin cover that can be thrown in the washer using any wool-safe detergent such as MELP sheepskin cleaner. Stainless steel roller buckles with spring closures make on the fly adjustments easy and safe.

Fitting Your Girth

This girth significantly curves. We suggest you order a size larger than you would any other sheepskin girth to make up for the shape.

Replacement Parts Available

For both the short and long girth options, the girth base, as well as the sheepskin girth cover, are available separately. You save about 10% by purchasing them together.

Colors and Custom Orders

Athletico long girths come in a brown base with natural colored sheepskin. All other color combinations are custom orders and will take 6-10 weeks to deliver. Handmade in Germany of sustainable materials sourced from responsible Merino sheep farms.

The Mattes Athletico comes in multiple colors but the only brown leather base with natural sheepskin cover (long and short girth) or black leather base with black sheepskin (short girth only) is stocked in the US. Other colors available but considered custom and will take 6-10 weeks for delivery.
