Product Description

Hanging Cheek Jointed Baucher Bit

Hanging Cheek Jointed Baucher Bit with multiple mouth options. A baucher / hanging cheek bit features a small shank on the cheek piece that assists with a very very small amount of poll pressure. A copper mouth lozenge assists with salvation while a stainless steel lozenge is tasteless, for more sensitive horses.

  • A snaffle, seen as a cross between an Eggbutt and a Full cheek
  • Little to zero poll pressure… similar to a full cheek with keepers
  • No leverage at all
  • Multiple mouth pieces to choose from
  • Great for novice riders as some contact bouncing will be reduced
  • The EA and FEI classify the Baucher as a snaffle bit

About the Baucher Bit AKA Hanging Cheek Snaffle

These baucher bits are one of the more argued about bits out there. Does a baucher bit apply poll pressure? Is a baucher bit a leverage bit?

No, the mechanics of the bit do not allow for poll pressure in any significant amount, you could say mild poll pressure if anything. The primary reasoning behind this is that you would need rotation of the bit. In real life, these bits do not rotate. Compare the rotation of a baucher / hanging cheek snaffle to that of the bevel bit and you will be convinced.

Also no, there is no leverage. There is no extension below the pivot. Don’t believe us, checkout the 3 ring LEVERAGE bit and compare it.

When correctly installed on the bridle, the small ring (top) are attached to the bridle cheek pieces. The larger ring (bottom) is where your reins connect.

Similar to a full cheek, the fixed cheek pieces of the hanging cheek snaffle prevent the bit from sliding through the mouth. Similar to an eggbutt, the baucher is stable and provides a calmness that cannot be found when using a loose ring snaffle.

Different Mouth Pieces

Lozenge: A lozenge is an oval shape, often preferred over a flat French link. The oval Lozenge is sometimes more accepted by the horse because there are no thin edges that could be uncomfortable.

  • Copper is considered a material that assists with salvation, a good thing for a bitted horse
  • Stainless Steel is prefered if a horse has a negative reaction to copper (usually just the taste is not preferred)

Some bits might be on backorder status. This means we don’t have them at our store and they will need to be ordered from the manufacturing company. This happens if the bit is super popular and sold out, OR it’s not very popular so we don’t keep it stocked.

Either way…

IF ON BACKORDER, please allow 2 weeks for delivery for single bit. If you order multiple bits, we will have the mfg ship directly to you. We will keep you informed, either way.
