Product Description

Flannel Standing Wraps

Flannel standing wraps made in the USA by Vacs Bandage Company. The flannel standing wraps are an equestrian classic – when paired with a quilt, they make the original standing bandage. We offer these flannel standing wraps with multiple options to match your preference. Flannel bandages are less stretchy than cotton standing bandages. The less stretch with flannel results in fewer pressure points on the leg, possibly reducing the risk of a bandage bow.

  • Come in packs of 2 or 4 wraps
  • Classic look, traditional wrapping material
  • Less stretch than cotton
    • Reduces risk of bandage bow
  • Fewer pressure points
    • Allows more even pressure across tendons
  • Multiple options to choose from

Flannel Length

The flannel wraps come in two, pre-cut lengths: 10 feet and 12 feet. The 10-foot flannel standing wraps are typically for small horses or front legs of standard sized horses. The 12 foot is typically for hind legs or if you’re using thick pillow wraps. Not sure? Go with the 12 foot – you can always wrap a bit more or cut the bandage to size.

Flannel Bandages Velcro Options

Flannel Wraps Without Velcro

Vacs makes their flannel standing wraps with velcro or without velcro. The velcro makes wrapping a bit easier and does not require tape or pins to keep the wraps in place. The Velcro costs a bit more so if you’re running a big barn, flannel bandages without velcro might be worth saving. You will need to have tape or pins if you go with the non Velcro model (sold separately).

Flannel Side Option

There are two sides to a flannel bandage: soft, fuzzy side and a more rough side. The soft, fuzzy side will pick up a massive amount of wood shavings – what we typically use in temp stalls for Eventing. If you use wood shavings, go with the fuzzy side in. If you use straw, the fuzzy side out won’t be such a factor. Overall, this is just a preference and does not (arguably) change the performance of the bandage. If your coach suggested you purchase flannel standing wraps, ask them what their preference is before making a purchase.

Caring for your Flannel Standing Wraps

You can use your flannel wraps right out of the bag. Once they’re dirty, wash them in a bandage bag or other small laundry bag. Cold water is best using a non-irritating detergent without fabric softener. After the first wash, your new flannel standing bandages WILL frey at the ends – DON’T WORRY. Simply cut the freys and move on. Washing a second and a third time may result in more freys. Don’t fret… just cut. After the third or fourth wash, they will stop fraying and you will be left with what we call the “seasoned” look – Abercrombie sold “distressed” jeans like this for $150 🙂
