Mattes Athletico Girth

Mattes Athletico Girth is a special purpose girth. This girth is available by special order. Mattes designed it to reduce your saddle slipping back, especially on horses with conformation issues. The shape helps it stay in the correct position, rather than sliding back based on the horse’s topline. For a short backed horse, this is a perfect girth. Mattes girths feature a removable sheepskin cover that can be thrown in the washer using any wool safe detergent such as MELP sheepskin cleaner. Stainless steel roller buckles with spring closures make on the fly adjustments easy and safe.

Fitting Your Mattes Athletico Girth

This girth is significantly curved. We suggest you order a size larger than you would any other sheepskin girth. Stocked sizes are available from the drop downs. If you don’t see the size or color you want, it’s available but has to be custom made. There is no charge for a custom mattes girth but it will take about 6 weeks to deliver.

Replacement Parts Available

For both the short and long girth options, the girth base as well as the sheepskin girth cover are available separately. You save about 10% by purchasing them together. Select from the drop downs to find just the girth base or just the sheepskin cover.

Colors and Custom Orders

Mattes short girths are available as custom orders and will take 6-10 weeks to deliver. Handmade using sustainable materials. Mattes uses genuine Merino sheepskins. Sheepskin is a great material for use on girths due to its natural, non slip properties. Wool is also a great moisture wicking material.
