EASY-CHANGE Gullet Gauge

EASY-CHANGE Gullet Gauge by Bates Saddlery. Part of the EASY-CHANGE® Fit Solution created by Bates to make saddle fitting quicker and easier for riders, trainers, and professionals. The Gullet gauge helps determine the width of the saddle that will provide comfort for your horse, giving you peace of mind that your saddle fit is not hindering your horse’s movement. The gullet gauge works with the EASY-CHANGE Gullet System and the EASY-CHANGE Riser System. Combined they create the EASY-CHANGE® Fit Solution. How to use the EASY-CHANGE Gullet Gauge

EASY-CHANGE® GULLET GAUGE heps determine the correct size gullet that fits your horse. Ideally, use the gauge every 3 to 6 months to monitor any changes to your horse’s muscles.

First place the saddle on your horse’s back. The tree points are the guide to placing the gullet gauge. To find this, mark under the spot where the pinheads of the saddle are; chalk works well for this.

Next, check that there are 3 fingers width behind your horse’s shoulder. This tells you if the saddle is in the correct place. Once marked, place the gullet gauge over your horse’s wither. Be sure the gauge is vertical and lined up with your marks. The gullet gauge should be in contact with your horse on both sides; adjust as needed to ensure this.

Finally, remove the gullet gauge being careful not to adjust the width of the gauge.  The gauge will show you the width gullet bar your horse needs. Use the EASY-CHANGE® Fit Solution system and place the correct gullet bar.
