Holds At Least Six Studs (2 front, 2 hinds with room for 4 hinds)

Once you have selected the studs you need to use, arrange them on the armband the way you’re going to put them on your horse: the top two studs on the wristband are the front studs and the bottom two are for the hinds. If you are selecting different studs for the inside and outside of the hoof, arrange the studs from left to right – inside to outside.

World Class Grooming is our go-to book for all things grooming. This book, written by Cat Hill and Emma Ford touches on how to setup your studs in a magnetic dish. This setup is the same for a magnetic armband to hold studs: lay them out exactly as if they’re in the horse’s hooves.

From their book: 

1. Always put two studs in the foot; the stud (on the magnetic horseshoe stud wristband or dish) closest to the opposite leg is the inside stud, the stud farther from the opposite leg is the outside one. This makes sure the foot remains balanced upon landing. Studs must penetrate the ground in order to prevent unnecessary concussion on the foot and stress to the lower leg.
2. You can use different size studs on the inside and outside of a hoof as long as the difference in height is minimal.
